Difference Between EXJADE and Deferoxamine
Deferoxamine is a treatment for chronic iron overload due to blood transfusions that requires daily subcutaneous drug infusions lasting 8 to 12 hours, whereas EXJADE is a once-daily oral therapy indicated for the treatment of chronic iron overload due to blood transfusions (transfusional hemosiderosis) in patients 2 years of age and older. Further studies are being performed to determine the long-term benefits and risks of EXJADE.
Ask your doctor if EXJADE might be right for you. Although both oral and infused medications for chronic iron overload due to blood transfusions can be effective in helping get rid of extra iron in the body, you and your doctor might decide to prescribe a once-daily oral medication for you.
